There’s something so magical about a cloudy day in Southern California — especially when it gives us the dreamiest soft light for an engagement session. I met this sweet couple at Upper Las Virgenes Canyon Open Space Preserve for an evening filled with laughter, easy conversation, and the kind of love that feels effortless to photograph.
The rolling hills were covered in soft earthy tones and the overcast skies wrapped everything in the prettiest glow. No harsh sunlight, no pressure to rush before sunset — just calm energy, open trails, and two people completely enjoying being together. Honestly, the weather could not have been more perfect for the vibe they wanted.
From the moment we started walking through the trails, it felt less like a photoshoot and more like hanging out with old friends. They laughed the entire session, held each other close between shots, and fully leaned into being present with one another. Those are always my favorite kinds of sessions — the ones where couples forget the camera is even there.
One of my favorite things about Upper Las Virgenes Canyon Open Space Preserve is how peaceful it feels. The wide open landscape, the mountains in the distance, and the quiet nature surrounding you makes it such a beautiful spot for engagement photos. Even with cloudy skies, the scenery felt warm and romantic in its own way.
As the evening went on, the clouds created the softest light imaginable and gave their gallery such a timeless feel. Every image feels intimate, playful, and true to who they are together. No dramatic sunsets needed — just good vibes, genuine connection, and a beautiful place to slow down together before their wedding day.
Sessions like this are always a reminder that the best photos come from simply being yourselves. And these two made that incredibly easy.
